Software engineer

Sercon are a innovative collaborative company who manufacture isotope ratio mass spectrometry (IRMS) instrumentation. We are constantly developing our product range to keep abreast of the latest technology, scientific developments, and most importantly, the requirements of our customers. We are seeking to recruit another software developer to create a new generation of Sercon software to control our instruments and process their data. This is an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to be involved in the creation of a new piece of software, from the design to launch.

Experience of designing software to control real-time scientific instrumentation is important. Experience and knowledge of mass spectrometry is also desirable but not necessary, as training will be given.

The ability to work independently is crucial. You will be supported by the software, engineering and sales team in learning about the instruments we make and the scientific areas they are used in. You will then have the creative freedom to develop software based on these discussions and create something truly unique.

You will have the opportunity to learn about IRMS and a range of associated instruments, including elemental analysis, gas and liquid chromatography, trace gas analysis and water equilibration. You will also have the opportunity to learn about the huge range of scientific areas it is used in, including medical research, biogeochemistry, environmental sciences, food adulteration, forensics, life sciences, archaeology and many more.

The ideal candidate will have a degree or PhD in software engineering,  computer science, or other scientific or mathematical disciplines, and experience of real time software engineering suited to the role.

Knowledge of programming in C# and VB is essential as the software will be developed on the Microsoft.net platform.

Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Relocation assistance is available for an experienced and well qualified candidate.
